About me

Welcome to my photography site. I have been taking landscape images actively for over 5 years now, typically crawling out of bed at some unearthly hour and struggling with a backpack full of camera and lenses, only to be disappointed that the light isn’t quite right or the cloud cover makes for an ordinary sunrise. And to top it off, when I get home my wife tells me “I told you it was going to be cloudy this morning and to not bother, didn’t I?? Makes you wonder why I still do it, right! Well, it’s because I love the prospect of that 1 in 10 morning with the right subject and light conditions.
 
Leading a pretty active corporate and personal life with a family, I find these early mornings to be a huge release and form of relaxation. The calmness of the beaches, the wonderfully quiet settings make for some very special moments. Living in Sydney I am blessed with some great locations typically at or by the beach or harbour, and with the temperate Sydney climate it allows year round photography opportunities should I have the time and inclination. 

Having converted from medium format film to digital in 2005, I don’t believe I will ever go back to film. While far more labour intensive and time consuming in image processing, the ability to experiment with digital is a huge advantage and has allowed me to expand my skills significantly. 

My photography kit now comprises a Canon 5D mark II, Canon 17-40mm F4 L , Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L and a Canon 70-200mm F4 L and a Gitzo Carbon fibre 1530 tripod. I've recently upgraded from the Canon 5D and am extremely impressed with the mark II for a number of reasons - Low noise performance at high ISO's. Up to 400 ISO it is almost noise free. The sensor cleaning is a welcome relief and the live display allows me to position the camera is places I simply can't reach - a wonderful addition.
